Private Art Advisory
Jeremy Petty is an independent art advisor serving private collectors in the United States and Europe.
JSP Art Advisory specializes in emerging, mid-career, and historically underrepresented artists — with particular depth in postwar American abstraction, hard-edge and geometric painting, and the underrepresented figures of the Black Arts Movement and West Coast modernism. Advisory services extend across painting, works on paper, and sculpture, and into the broader field of objects where artistic vision and design thinking converge — 20th century modernist furniture, ceramics, lighting, and the landmark production pieces that defined the postwar period in Europe and the Americas.
The Practice
Since co-founding NOHO Modern Gallery in Los Angeles, and through more than two decades of work as a gallerist and independent advisor, Petty has built his practice at the intersection of serious painting and important design — acquiring, placing, and building context around works that the broader market had not yet caught up with.
That accumulated experience established the research foundation and collector relationships that now shape every recommendation JSP brings to its clients.
What We Do
Identifying and sourcing works across primary and secondary markets, with particular strength in pre-market and private sale opportunities.
Long-term collection development grounded in art-historical research, market intelligence, and a clear understanding of each client's vision.
Provenance research, condition assessment, authentication support, and full documentation for every acquisition.
How We Work
Every advisory relationship begins with a serious conversation about what you already own, what you're drawn to, and where you want the collection to go. That conversation never really ends.
Historical, cultural, and biographical context is inseparable from how we assess significance and value. Market data informs our thinking — it does not drive it.
Our track record is built on early conviction. We identify artists and objects whose significance has not yet been fully reflected in institutional or market recognition, and we act with patience and precision.
Negotiation, due diligence, provenance research, documentation, shipping, installation — we handle the full process so that your relationship with the work remains what it should be.

Case Studies
Our case studies are available to serious collectors and advisors. Tell us a little about your collection and interests.
Thank you. We will be in touch shortly.
The most significant acquisitions of the last generation were made by collectors who trusted research over consensus.
JSP Art Advisory works with a select number of collectors at any given time.
We would be glad to hear from you.
